Respect out of fear

A veteran actor passes away in Bangalore and the city wakes up, on a cold winter morning, with the chilling memories of loot and arson of another actor 3 years ago. As one passes the streets one can see pictures of the actor on windowpanes of cars, rickshaws, infront of temple, factory walls and gates. As our cab entered our office there were pictures with garlands infront of the building. Vortex of fear, hidden under the crest of reverence filled the air

One is forced to think, feeling of respect is superficial and lacks depth of all the emotions. The respect that we carry for our leaders, whether in corporate, political or religion, is never out of a deep feeling of love. It is always about the power that translates to the pain he/she can inflict if one is casual with him/her. Or it is about money which when translated becomes fear of losing ones share. The person with flesh, blood and bone is of little significance unless he masquerades himself with fame, power and riches. A grim countenance replaces the otherwise baby face.

  1. when one expects adoration from outside, be sure it is insecurity within that is at work. one wants illusory signals from outside to sustain one's own illusion about what one is. we are all like that, the difference is only in the grading of it. the higher we go in material life, up the ladder of prosperity, power and fame, the bigger this problem is for us. then we will need fan clubs, supporters and all the lot of it. if is funny if you watch it closely, because it is a bilateral pact too. you prop me up on crutches and i will help you forget your insecurity by taking you under the umbrella of my patronage and larger-than-life false identity. bandhs and violence after the death of the idolised happen when the worshippers take the pact beyond the expiry date.

  2. Perhaps see it like this ,"God engaged in creation for five days and the sixth day he creates man.On the seventh day he went into sabbath to atone for his blunder in creating man."
